We found this bunk bed ladder in an
Wilson helped paint all of it, he helped caulk the baseboards and the board and batten, and he helped install the carpet squares we got for a steal at the Habitat Restore!
I ordered this firebell online - and it is loud and perfect for his firestation!
I boxed in the pipes and painted it yellow.
The diode light strips can change colors (which make photographing this small space even harder!)
Old rotary phones might just be the best toy ever for a 3 year old.
Once we got to this point I thought we were done.
Then Wilson said, "Where is the kitchen going to go?"
And so we built a kitchen. Big dreams this boy, big dreams.
Can you tell what we built it out of?
An old Ikea Billy Bookcase turned on its side. It was narrow enough to be the perfect fit.
The refrigerator with a basket of veggies.
A drying rack underneath the skirted sink.
Yes, I chopped up Santa so this rack could be used as the inside of the oven.
Tucked on the other side of the refrigerator, is a little foam chair that I plan on covering in the fabric you see here. Perfect little reading nook. If I had any energy left, I would build a little book ledge and mount a light here. Maybe next week!
Want to see the little guy in action?
Sound the alarm!!
Up he goes...
And down again!
Fire is out - time for a snack for the fireman.
Considering we started with THIS:
And ended with THIS:
I think BOTH Wilson and I deserve a good afternoon nap, don't you agree?!

This might be the most adorable thing I've ever seen. It makes me want to be a kid again! This room is truly wonderful. I love the yellow fireman pole, the play kitchen, the felt food, the bell, the board and batten, the bright red and yellow colors... but, most of all, I love the fact that you involved your son throughout the entire process. That will be a memory that both you and him will share for a lifetime. Tremendous work. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE THIS!!! My nephew wants to come over and play with Wilson! You have to be so proud of yourself, you included so many fun details. How perfect is that pole? Great addition with the ladder. And that rotary phone! Love it. Too funny about Wilson asking for a kitchen. Way to pull it off, this is all around fantastic!!

ReplyDeleteThis is amazing! You spared no detail! I am a preschool teacher and know first hand what an awesome space this would be for a three year old. Wilson is a very luck boy. The space even looks bigger than when you started!
ReplyDeleteThis is adorable. I found this through Transformation Thursday. I will have to find a place for something like this when my little guy is older!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! I would love if you would share this at the Crazy Cute link party happening at Between U & Me right now! I've got a totally awesome giveaway this week, too!

Amazing. My husband, dad, brother, and brother in law are all volunteer firemen and my husband is an EMT. Once they get that bug it stays in there blood. That is an awesome room. We rented when my son was little but he would have dug that space.
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome! (Can my 3 year-old son come over to play??) What a loving mother to create such a sweet space for her little boy!

ReplyDeleteThis is so adorable! My little guys would have LOVED this (and might still now, even though they're almost 8... hard to believe). Really nice job - and a great use of space. Seems perfect for someone this little guy's height!
